adulterate
ad-ulter-ate = to + other + adj. or v.
1. v. to debase or make impure by adding inferior substance, elements or materials.

Example: All the adulterated oil has been recalled.

ps. adultery 通姦罪 adulterer 姦夫、通姦者 adulteress 淫婦

advent
ad-vent= to + come,   ven=arrive, come, t是結尾音 有action的意思
1. v. the coming of an important event, people or invention.
2. the period of four weeks before Christmas in the Christian religion 耶穌降臨

Example: Budding flowers signals the advent of spring.

ps.adventure 冒險(還蠻常用的單字)

adventitious
ad-ven-t-itious    itious: is an compound suffix occurring in adjective of Latin origin.
adj. happening accidentally, not planned.

Example: Her adventitious meeting with her ex-husband came as a surprise.

adversary-adversarial
ad+ver+s+ary = to turn, adverse means 逆向的、反向的、有害的  ver means turn against, so adverse = to turn to. ary=person
n. the person, group or force that oppose or attacks, or that is an opponent in a contest.

Example: He considers his brother (to be) his main adversary.

adverse-adverseness-adversely
ad-ver-se(suffix) = to turn
adj unfavorable or antagonistic in purpose or effect; unpleasant.

Example: Adverse conditions forced me to quit.

adversity
n. an adverse event, circumstance, fortune or fact.

Example: I know I must confront adversity bravely.

advert ( +to~) - advertence(note) - advertent (adj.)
verb. to remark or comment, refer; to turn the attention.

advocate - advocacy
ad+voc + ate = to+call+action  voc= to call
v. to speak or write in favor of; support or urge by agreement; recommend publicly
n. a person who speaks or writes to "support" or "defense" of a person or course.

 Example: He advocates free education for everyone.
